Police are still investigating after an 11-year-old boy was struck and killed in Maryland Heights on SB I-270 Tuesday morning.
Wiseman snuck out of his home after being put on punishment. He left behind a note explaining that he was running away to Cape Girardeau to see his biological father.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 11-year-old Zaelynn Wiseman was walking eastbound across the southbound lanes around 6:30am near Olive and had stopped in lane one when he was struck.
The woman who struck Wiseman attempted to stop to avoid him but unfortunately it was too late.
The highway was shut down for several hours. It’s not clear why Wiseman was trying to cross the highway.
Wiseman was a 6th grade student at Parkway Northeast Middle School. His parents said that he gave the best hugs. They are truly devastated.
The school is working with his family and students to offer counseling.

ICYMI: 11-year-old Zaelynn Wiseman was upset he had been grounded and said he was going to see his father when he was fatally struck by a car, this mother said. His great-grandmother described him as “a very intelligent little boy, as smart as a whip.”
