Yannick Joseph Bouchard charged in crash that killed father and daughter

Calgary, Yannick Joseph charged in deadly hit-and-run accident that killed father and daughter on Macleod Trail in Calgary 

According to the Calgary Police Service, 51-year-old Yannick Joseph Bouchard, of Calgary has been charged in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of a 37-year-old father and his 7-year-old daughter, leaving an 11-year-old girl in critical condition. The accident happened at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, on Macleod Trail S.E. in Calgary.

The accident involving three cars happened in the 12800 block of Macleod Trail S.E when a three-quarter-ton pick-up truck driven by Bouchard northbound on Macleod Trail in the left-hand lane struck a sedan with three occupants from behind. The impact caused the driver of the sedan to lose control of the car and the car veered off the center median into the southbound lanes and was struck by a southbound half-ton truck.

The man and his 7-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene while the other girl was hospitalized in critical condition. After the crash, the driver of the half-ton truck remained at the scene while Bouchard fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after.

Bouchard has been charged with the following charges according to the Calgary Police Service 

  •  Fail/refuse to comply with demand after an accident resulting in death,
  • Two counts of dangerous operation causing death,
  • One count of dangerous operation causing bodily harm,
  • Two counts of hit and run causing death, one count of hit and run causing bodily harm. Additional charges are pending and the investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.

They further added He remains in custody at this time pending his next court appearance.
