World War II Veteran Hedley Lake dies at 103

Hedley Lake Death – Cause Of Death: World War II Veteran and Last survivor of S.S. Caribou sinking Hedley Lake have passed away on Wednesday 1st December 2021 at the age of 103 at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin, leaving behind his beautiful family and friends. The circumstances surrounding Hedley Lake have not been known at the time of this publication.

Hedley Lake survived the sinking of the SS Caribou in October 1942, he was among the 101 passengers of 237 who boarded the ferry. He was born in the year 1918 to Samuel P. and Ada C. Lake. Hedley Lake was a native of Fortune, on Newfoundland’s Burin Peninsula. Hedley joined the Royal navy in the year 1940.

He was a loving, caring, and open-handed man, He lived a well-disciplined life full of love and happiness, he was larger than life and gave all he had to serve his people. He will be remembered for his humility and altruism. Hedley Lake’s funeral arrangement ad obituary will be released by his family in due time.
