Wick Allison Death – Dead | Obituary – Passed Away

Wick Allison Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Wick Allison.

We are saddened to hear of the loss of Wick Allison, publisher of D Magazine and champion for walkability. In the spring of 2019, we profiled him in an issue of Columns and he beautifully spoke on his past and future involvement in helping build a better Dallas.

Upon hearing the news of his passing this morning, I looked for that voicemail. It’s long gone. And I’m okay with that. I like the memory of it.
Thanks for believing and teaching that we could do the impossible, Wick.

Rest Peacefully, Wick Allison.

A true mensch who will be missed by all who knew him.

Sending love & good thoughts to Christine and your amazing daughters.

See you around, amigo.

My colleague @roddreher says it all here. And I remember the re-launch party at Jon Utley’s home, turning a page on @amconmag‘s tumultuous fiscal times, thanks to Wick Allison. His energy and commitment saved TAC. RIP.

My heart is heavy after reading this news. Wick Allison was not only a brilliant man, he was also so kind. I remember stories like it was yesterday my father would tell me about. Heaven will never be the same with Wick Allison and Bernie Kraft reunited together again!

My condolences go out to the Allison family on the loss of Wick Allison.
He was a visionary leader who challenged us, the city of Dallas, to think about our future and past.
He will be missed.

I interned at D Magazine the summer of 2006. I don’t remember ever getting to talk to Wick Allison, but I remember listening to him talk. And according to this obituary, that sounds about right.

He was a legend.

I interned at D in 2016. I distinctly remember Wick being obsessed with FB Live that summer, so the interns were assigned to brainstorm ideas for the platform. He thought my group’s presentation was hilarious. I sometimes flaunt the fact that I once made Wick Allison laugh.

D Magazine founder Wick Allison has passed away. In this every-five-seconds update world of modern media, the slower, measured pace of the city magazine is worth preserving, and his is a legacy worth remembering. @DMagazine

Wick Allison, RIP. Veteran @amconmag board member and someone who helped put the organization on a surer financial footing. Also former publisher of National Review.

R.I.P., Wick Allison (1948–2020)
He was a force for good and my steadfast friend. Godspeed,Wick. Personally and on behalf of 2.7 million ⁦@DallasCountyTx residents, thank you for all you did for NTX❣️⁩ I’m praying for Christine and your daughters.

(1/2) After I lost the Dallas mayoral race in 2019, I was trying to figure out my place in the city. It was quite existential. Then I got a call from @wickallison. About 2 minutes into my pity party, Wick told me to shut up and a few weeks later, hired me to help shape the city.

Last night Dallas lost a visionary who left an indelible mark on the city’s blueprint. Our co-founder, Wick Allison, asked what more our city could be and fought like hell to make these aspirations a reality. We will miss his presence, but his spirit lives on with the Coalition.

Wick Allison threw me into the deep end—leaving me to execute some scheme he’d dreamt up—many times. I’m (mostly) the better for it. I’ll never forget his cackles of delight or his withering stares as he weighed judgment on something I’d just said.

It’s a blessing to devote your life to something you love. And I know Wick Allison loved Dallas. The city has lost a native son, and his family has lost a loved one. My heart goes out to Christine and his daughters.

In 1974, Wick Allison started D Magazine. On Tuesday, he left us. Today, we honor his dedication to making Dallas an even better place. Whether you were a D employee, a politician, or unlucky enough to be serving him lunch on a day when inspiration struck.
