We could all learn a lot from the way Vic Gilliam conducted his life. There are too few people in this world that possess his character, compassion, wit and genuine kindness. Even fewer in politics.
I know many #orpol hearts are heavy today. We’ll miss you, Vic.

Vic Gilliam had the humor and grace that we all need more of these days. I’ll never forget him consistently showing up to participate in the ALS walk after my Dad died of the same disease that took Vic way too soon.

Working in politics, I meet a lot of people, very few become friends. Yesterday I lost one. Vic Gilliam was a Republican, he was a Christian, he loved his family and was a loyal and true friend. He was compassionate and values driven. He was smart and funny. Really, really funny.

Vic will always be remembered as a stand-up State Representative in the Oregon Legislature who was well respected on all sides of the political spectrum. He brought kindness, levity, and humor to compassionate work, and his legacy will live on.

I had the absolute pleasure and honor of working with Rep. Vic Gilliam on a number of bills aimed at keeping people safe on long term care facilities. He was funny, carried himself with grace and had a passion for his community. May he rest in peace.

Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of retired Rep. Vic Gilliam. Rep. Gilliam was a true public servant, who worked tirelessly for his constituents and all Oregonians. The entire state of Oregon is better for his dedicated service.

He’d make his rounds and drop a yard sign. I always supported him. 2013 I emailed him about a cop killer up for parole. He responded just after midnight,”I’m on it.” #legit Former Oregon lawmaker Vic Gilliam, known for humor and bipartisanship, dies at 66

Today has been really hard. I know he is in a better place and no longer in pain. You don’t get to meet many people like Vic Gilliam and I’m incredibly sad that he is gone but also grateful that he was in my life if even if for too short a time.

He valued life and supported immigrant rights even though his party didn’t. Mark Hatfield was one of his early mentors and it showed. He looked for ways to make Oregon better by reaching across party lines to find the best solutions. Everyone loved him and loved being around him.
