Authorities have confirmed four victims died in a fatal crash in Melbourne’s west overnight. The men involved in the accident were all young men aged between 15 and 20.
It happened that a sedan travelling east along Dohertys Road in Truganina struck a small truck head-on about 7.30 pm on Thursday 30th of September 2021.
Glenn Weir, Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner confirmed through an initial investigation that a 16-year-old boy was the driver of the sedan when it crashed.
“It’s proven a really difficult investigation at this stage to absolutely determine identity and age but I can say they are all aged between 15 and 20,” Assistant Commissioner Weir said.
“It looks as though the male who was driving the car was around 16-years-old.
“Obviously without a licence, obviously extremely inexperienced – last night’s weather was really challenging, there are suggestions of speed and inappropriate driving.
“Then you look at the poor old truck driver who was driving along, doing his job and has been involved in just a terrible incident that’s claimed a number of lives.”
All occupants were trapped inside the wreck and had to be pried out.
Two male victims died at the spot of the scene while two others died after arriving at the hospital.
The other driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for observation.
Authorities are still investigating the case and they urge anybody who saw the crash or has dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
