Teen, 18, fatally shoots friend playing video game in Dallas

Cristian Avila Death : Officials are investigating the shooting death of Cristian Avila inside a Dallas apartment complex Sunday.

According to Dallas Police Department, the incident happened at the Ridgecrest Apartments complex at 6417 Ridgecrest Road. Officers responded to shots fired report at the scene. Arriving officials encountered a person identified as Hector Romero-Molina giving medical attention to the victim Avila who had injuries consistent with gunshots to the upper torso.

Investigators say 18-year-old Alexandre Orozco Garcia was in the home when the shooting occurred. There determined Garcia was holding a 9mm when the pistol accidentally went off and fatally struck Avila.

According to police, Avila was transported to the Presbyterian Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators took Romero and Garcia to police headquarters where their statements were taken. Romero stated that all three of them were playing video games and there were no altercations before the weapon accidentally went off.

Detectives say Garcia admitted to shooting Avila when he was handling the gun and have been charged with manslaughter. It is not clear if his bond has been set.
