Suspect in the killing of Colleen Potts in Fernandina Beach have been identified

Colleen Potts Death – Cause of Death – Colleen Potts, 73, was found dead by the Fernandina Beach Police Department while responding to a wellbeing check in October. The police said they have arrested a man in connection to the death of Colleen. The suspect identified as 47-year-old Shawn Lamont Whigham has been apprehended in connection to the death. Authorities revealed that Whigham is currently charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Homicide and burglary charges are expected to be filed too. According to the police, Whigham had previously done handyman work at the residence where Potts died. The police were alerted to the scene in response to a 911 call about the door of a home being open and dogs running around 9 p.m. Responding officers disclosed that they found the garage door leading into the main part of the home open, along with the inner door to the home

When they searched the home, they discovered Potts lying face down dead in the living room. Reports mentioned that Potts was house-sitting for the homeowner. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
