Vale the fabulous Sue Salthouse, my #disability sister, dearest friend, outstanding change agent. I can’t imagine this fight without you. In 25 years we did so much brilliant stuff together & nothing can take that away.

I interviewed Sue Salthouse on March 30, 2020. It was a wide-ranging conversation about the past, present and future of the disability rights movement in Australia. Sue was an insightful, generous, deeply impressive person. We’ve lost a giant. Vale. #disability

“Sue Salthouse was a Canberra icon who was tireless and generous in her support for the advancement of equality for all,” said Professor Tom Calma AO, Chancellor of the University of Canberra. “She will be greatly missed, not just by all at the University, but by the Canberra community at large. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

The UC Community acknowledges with gratitude the incredible contributions of Sue.

In 2015, Sue was honoured as the Canberra Citizen of the Year and late last year, was named the 2020 ACT Senior Australian of the Year. She was also named ACT Woman of the Year in 2014.

Sue spent her life in the service of her community. In particular she worked tirelessly to make our city a more inclusive place to live.
