Steve Kassimer Obituary – Death | Dead – Passed Away
Steve Kassimer Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Steve Kassimer.
We are saddened to pass along the news that yesterday, we lost a member of our Spikes family in Steve “Braskey” Kassimer.
Braskey served as a Senior Sales Executive for the Spikes from 2012-2014, but remained a close friend to all of us through the years.
You could always count on Braskey to bring a smile to your face, whether in the front office or the stands.
We send our deepest condolences to his wife Kristi, his sons Cohen and Wyatt, his mother Zelma, his father Michael, and to the countless more family and friends whose lives he brightened.
You get one shot at life… Steve Kassimer aka Bill Braskey did it as good as anyone I’ve ever met. Simply put, Steve was the best. We had many (maybe too many) late nights and early mornings between our radio gig at B94.5 and our nighttime janitorial duties at the apartment complex we roomed together at (in order to get free rent). Little did I know that apartment would be home to conversations about how he would propose to the most amazing woman, which would lead to a beautiful family he cares so deeply about and (for me) a friendship that would turn into a brotherhood with memories only the two of us could recall or care about (we just got a kick out of each other). During times of anxiety or trouble I would lean on my rock… Braskey. Steve would often tell me “The Good Lord won’t give you more than you can handle.” Over time I would learn to apply this and in-turn restore my faith (and to this day when I drifted, he put me in my place). Steve also ended every phone call with “I love you” and when I didn’t say it, he called me out and made me learn to not only say it but know what it meant. Thankfully, our last phone call was a week or two ago… the day before what we become his fatal accident… he was planning to come to State College to buy a new car. The last thing my guy ever said to me was “I Love You”… a conversation I will never forget. Braskey leaves behind his rock Kristi Rooker Kassimer, his amazing two little boys (they are the best), his parents/family and more friends than anyone I know. As fate would have it.. the last time I saw Steve, I was dressed up as the Nittany Lion Mascot (Braskey and I convinced his boys Mr. Nittany Lion lived in my basement). There was nothing I looked forward to more than The Kaz Crew coming up to State College for the weekend and spending some late nights reliving our “B94 Glory Days” and listening to our old prank calls. If we could convince Mrs. Braskey to let Cohen (his oldest) stay up late, we would watch his son’s favorite movie “Cool Runnings” and then make the kids dance to “Twist and Shout” from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (just like their dad, they were Old School). In the morning (after too many bourbons for me) I would wake up to both of Steve’s little guys running upstairs and jumping on my bed (Braskey didn’t want me sleeping in and expected me to take the boys on a day on the town in State College on Sunday mornings)… I will cherish forever the kick he got out of the boys waking me up the day after a football game and a long night. Steve was the best, he made us all better and now he will watch over us until we meet again. A true legend… a friend everyone in this life needs and someone that will never be replaced. I love you Braskey. RIP
Rest In Peace Steve “Kas” Kassimer ‘07. You were a true Fighting Scot🏈. I got lucky when you entered my class and have enjoyed your friendship over these years. You were God’s gift to all of us.
