I’m in a state of disbelief and grief at the same time as I keep thinking Ople is about to come prancing into the kitchen at any moment with a tray of sweet coffees and snacks to lift up the team. can never understand how the universe works, but taking from us one of the kindest rays of light I have met thus far in life is just not fair.
sadness combined with anger and an empty heart today. as I think about the amazing way in which Ople impacted every person he came in contact with. whether a long-time coworker or someone he was just meeting for the first time. he had a way of making everyone around him feel special, feel joyful and feel love. he always had a way of saying just the right thing to raise spirits. silliness when needed. encouragement when that made more sense. I was excited to see his passion for food along with his incredible way with people shine with his recent move into sous chef at Cabra.
This is a screenshot from a video he tagged me in during training. often with his phone capturing life’s moments. always bringing big smiles to all of us.
I will take inspiration from him always and know that random acts of kindness, even the tiniest things, can have such an impact on those around us.
thank you Ople for being part of our team, for being a friend, for making hard days better”.
The crash remains under investigation.
John Ople’s obituary will be released by his family.
