Jazz Critic Stanley Crouch Death – Dead | Obituary – Passed Away
Stanley Crouch Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Stanley Crouch.
Stanley Crouch himself once acknowledged he “wasn’t much to look at.” However, as one who was a fan, I always considered him a HELLUVA READ!
Stan was a jazz/literary giant. If you’ve never read any of his stuff — music reviews or social commentary…I encourage you to ‘Google’ him and check the brutha out!
I often disagreed with what Crouch wrote, but always admired the way he wrote it. To me, he was one of America’s true ‘thought leaders!’
R.I.P.
I always loved it when Stanley was in the audience at the Vanguard, his presence heard and felt with excitement and danger. Blessed we were to have known him in person and he was as u say warm hearted and had so much love for the real music and history. RIP Stanley Crouch! VIA

Sad to hear of the passing of Stanley Crouch. I remember as a teenager buying Wynton Marsalis’ Standard Time albums when i could afford them, and being stunned that someone could write about music in that way…always excited to read his liner notes before the CD went on!!

So sorry to hear the news about Stanley Crouch, the hugely eloquent jazz critic and public intellectual. He had many writer-friends and made us all feel that things were looking up for us. Victory is assured, he liked to say. R.I.P.

Sad to learn of the death of a great critic and intellectual, Stanley Crouch. Rebecca @platobooktour and I were fortunate to have had a lively dinner with him not long ago – he was an appreciator of Spinoza.

The passing of Stanley Crouch makes me sad. From him, I enjoyed both my greatest compliments and endured the most scathing, painful criticisms. If you allowed yourself the opportunity, you came away from each conversation with him more curious and therefore, a bit smarter. RIP

So sad to hear that my friend and mentor Stanley Crouch has passed away at 74. Crouch was a jazz drummer who became a peerless writer about jazz, the music he loved and championed.

My education in black criticism has three leading figures: Michele Wallace, Greg Tate, and Stanely Crouch. The last departed the living today. His life and work expressed a love of jazz whose purity was marvelous. I owe a lot to this supreme love. #StanleyCrouch

Stanley Crouch, pugilist critic and jazz advocate, had a tough go of it the last several years, and especially the last several months. But if you ever got to know him, even just a little, a part of you believed nothing would ever take him down. Alas, today was the day. #RIP #VIA

Influential critic and columnist Stanley Crouch has died at age 74. The self-taught Renaissance man’s prose, a blend of high art and street talk, was inspired by his love of blues and jazz. He was known for his impulse to step over the line.

Heartbroken to hear Stanley Crouch died. I met him in 2000 at the historic Elaine’s with my mentor Melvin Jules Bukiet. He decided I was smart & for many years I was one of the young people in NYC who he regularly would call up wondering what I thought of his latest work.

#Stanleycrouch helped shape me as a writer, he showed me his version of being a public figure, and he taught me about jazz. He told me that when he was a kid he stayed in the house so much the neighbors didn’t realize his fam had another kid. He was reading, reading, reading.
