Shooting suspect flees after chase from downtown Fort Myers to Lehigh Acres

FORT MYERS SHOOTING – Authorities are investigating after multiple shots fire prompted an officer chase from downtown Fort Myers to Lehigh Acres early Monday morning.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started around 3 a.m. when police responded to the area of Hendry and Main Street in downtown Fort Myers after multiple people called 911 to report the shooting.

Police said no victims were found at the scene but investigators did find shell casings in the area. A short time later the driver of a pickup truck described as the shooting suspect led authorities on a chase ending in a crash at Lee Boulevard and Sunshine Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.

The driver abandoned the pickup truck and was not immediately found. Police said they believe they found the gun involved in the early morning shooting.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the hit-and-run.
