To our Ferris friends and followers. We regret to announce the passing of our founder, leader and frontman, Shawn Maudhuit.
We are feeling a collective sense of loss and nostalgia. The feeling that an era has passed and the spotlight that shined so brightly towards the center of our stage has gone dark.
Our brightest memories of Shawn will be the songs that he sang and the music we shared.
We are honored to have known him, perform with him and be a part of his life.
We send our sincere condolences to Holly, Colin and the entire Maudhuit family.
WE LOVE YOU SHAWN, REST IN PEACE.
My heart is heavy. My good friend Shawn Maudhuit passed away last night. As many of you know I loved him and hated him. I’m grateful we got back to being good friends a couple years ago. I will miss him very much. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Shawn Maudhuit, I am currently inconsolable right now after hearing the news. I could take the time to write a huge long paragraph about all that you have done for me over the years but that goes without saying. I will be writing you a note, but at the moment I cannot form coherent sentences. I just can’t believe it. You were a part of my life for 14 years. You were responsible for designing the haunted house where I made so many friendships, especially Bill Smolter, who I consider my brother and the uncle of my children. I am a complete loss right now and not sure what to say or do. You are the one who took me out for breakfast when I found out I had lost my best friend, Katie Marie Walters. You were always there. Always. Halloween will never be the same without you. My life will never be the same. The world will never be the same. You have touched so many people and probably never even realized it.
Please rest easy. I will NEVER forget you.
Flashback is saddened to learn of the passing of our friend and local legend Shawn Maudhuit the man behind and in front of the greatness of Ferris Bueller’s Revenge!!
He was one of the greats at whipping a crowd into a frenzy and “whipping it good”.
The members of Flashback will miss their friend and Pittsburgh will surely miss the man in the Ghostbusters hat that was always after “Jessie’s Girl” and was forever trying to “Save Ferris”
Rest in Peace our friend but we’re sure the party in heaven just got ramped up a notch!!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends….he touched a lot of lives and brought a lot of smiles….let’s hold on to that in his memory
We’ve lost one of the pillars of our local music community and a great friend, Shawn Maudhuit. It’s hard to wrap my head around this one… Please pray for his son, his family, his bandmates, and his many fans.
I keep looking at old pics, messages, memories, social media posts, etc., that we’ve shared over the years, and it stings… Total smartass and genuinely beautiful person all wrapped up in one.
Rest in peace, my longtime friend. Heaven just got a lot more sarcastic. Until we meet again. I love you, brother.
For anyone who knew me in high school, they know how devoted I was to volunteering my time every year to support the West Deer Nightmare Haunted House. My freshman year I was introduced to the opportunity through drama class. Never did I know, that Every Halloween season from there on out would be cherished the way I cherish it today.
Unfortunately never did I expect that I would be saying my final goodbye to the visionary behind the whole program so soon. It is with a very heavy heart that I received word today that Shawn Maudhuit has passed away.
Shawn, was a unique individual. He was a creative mind who knew how to draw the best out of people, how to engage a community, make you laugh, how to put on a show, how to entertain crowds of people, and at the end of the day, make it so you always want to come back for more of his personality and humor.
I know I’m speaking for every single family member of the West Deer Nightmare Crew when I say Shawn served as a role model, as a mentor, in some cases even a father figure to us. He knew how to serve the community and used his talents to help spread joy. Words alone can’t begin to express how sorely missed he is and will be. My prayers are with his family, friends, and anyone in between who knew just how great of a person he was.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
