Senator H. Russell “Russ” Potts Jr American businessman and politician passed away aged 82

Harry Russell Potts Jr. Death – Cause of Death – Harry Russell Potts Jr., American businessman and politician sadly passed away at the age of 82 on the 19th of December 2021 surrounded by his wife Emily and family. Harry served as a Republican state senator in Virginia who represented the 27th district for nearly two decades. He was an independent candidate for Governor of Virginia in 2005 and received 2.22 percent of the vote in a race won by Democrat Tim Kaine, far below the votes received by Republican Jerry Kilgore.

Wikipedia revealed that Harry’s running as an Independent produced a political firestorm so he retired from the state senate in the next election. Harry was born on the 4th of March 1939 in Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in journalism and a minor in political science and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964.

Harry was a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth of Nations, generally known simply as the Commonwealth, is a political association of 54 member states, almost all of which are former territories of the British Empire.

Virginia Teen Democrats said in a tweet;  “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Senator Russ Potts earlier today. We will always remember his integrity and his many years of service to our beloved Commonwealth.”

Terry McAuliffe said in a tweet; “Senator H. Russell “Russ” Potts Jr passed away peacefully today, surrounded by his wife Emily and family. He always put Virginia first, no matter the party or politics. Dorothy and I will deeply miss our friend and mentor. His loss is a major one for the entire Commonwealth.”
