It is with heavy hearts that we learn of the sudden passing of Officer Sean Peek of the Bridgeton Police Department. The 49 year old and 15 year veteran was found unresponsive at his home late Sunday morning. Hours earlier, Peek had struggled in river waters trying to rescue a female suspect.
Officer Peek, was dispatched to a report of someone striking an ambulance with an object around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
When Officer Peek arrived at the scene, he observed an individual running into a wooded area and saw the woman either fall or jump into the Cohansey River.

The woman eventually made it across the river, but Officer Peek had difficulty making it back to shore as he was still donning all of his equipment and gear. Other officers assisted Officer Peek getting out of the river.
