Samuel Yanez of Waynesville, SC dies in Laurens County wrong-way car accident

Samuel A. Yanez Death – Cause of Death : 21-year-old Samuel A. Yanez, of Waynesville, South Carolina has been identified by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office as the victim that lost died in a deadly head-on collision. The accident happened on Sunday morning, December 19, 2021, at approximately 6:07 a.m. on I-385 southbound near mile marker 22 in Laurens County, South Carolina. Yanez died of blunt force trauma injuries suffered from the deadly wrong-way accident.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Yanez was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla the wrong way. Yanez was heading northbound on the southbound lane when he collided head-on with a 2019 Ford F-150 heading southbound on Interstate 385S. The impact of the collision caused the Ford to roll over and burst into flames.

Yanez who was not belted at the time of the crash was pinned in the car and was extricated from the car by EMS.  Yanez suffered serious blunt force trauma injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. While the driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital by EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.

Samuel A. Yanez’s obituary will be released by the family.
