We are sorry to share news of the passing of Ross Dallow MNZM, QPM, NZSSM (Erebus) JP.
Prominent Athletics Auckland official coach and manager during the 1980’s Ross passed away on Monday 20 July 2020 aged 83.
He won the New Zealand junior discus throw title in 1956 and continued his involvement in the sport throughout his life. He was an athletics coach for over 30 years, with his athletes winning 31 national titles and setting eight New Zealand records. Ross managed Auckland teams to the New Zealand Track and Field Championships.
He was a member and made a Life Member of the Waitakere City Athletic Club. He steered the committee and was the driving force in the fund raising to build The Trusts Arena and Douglas Track and Field in Henderson. This was acknowledged with a West Auckland Legacy Award in 2015.
Ross was 36 years in the New Zealand Police rising to Superintendent and District Commander West Auckland. On his retirement from the Police Ross was involved in the local government. He was a Waitakere City Councillor and later a Councillor on the Henderson-Massey Local Board. For many years he was a member of the Waitakere Licensing Trust.
He received the Queen’s Police Medal in the 1980 Queen’s Birthday Honours and made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the community.
Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.
