I’m writing this in tears right now. I was not prepared for the news that my dear friend and broadcast colleague Rich Fellingham had passed. When I joined the Nebraska Women’s Basketball radio broadcast, Rich was in the midst of a great run as Iowa State’s women’s basketball radio voice. No one could do the broadcast Rich did. It was uniquely his own and Cyclone fans loved it. The way Rich described a game is a roadmap for how all school radio voices should do it. His view of the game was different than mine, and that’s the beauty of what we do. Rich should have taught a class of how to be a home radio host. He always sought me out, told me about the state of his team, always with dignity and class. Rich was an elegant man who had my respect and everyone in the league. Folks, that group of women’s basketball radio voices we had in the late 1990’s through the early 2010’s in the Big 12 was incredible, and I’m humbled to have been part of those amazing professionals. To my good friend Coach Bill Fennelly and the entire Iowa State community, I send you all my sincere thoughts and prayers. To Rich – a tip of the cap to you, my friend. You did it well, you did it right and you dignified what we do and elevated our craft. Yours is a spot that will be greatly missed.

I have a heavy heart tonight as many of us around Iowa State say goodbye to a great friend, Rich Fellingham. The below picture was taken before the first game following the Cyclone women’s basketball play-by-play legend’s retirement. He showed up to offer Brent and me support. Rich sat behind us to make sure we had everything that we needed. It was an honor to call dozens of games with Rich over the years. Such a great man, mentor and friend. I will miss him dearly.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rich Fellingham, the longtime voice of Cyclone women’s basketball.

Rich’s impact on our program was immense and will not be forgotten.

One of Rich Fellingham’s proudest things he used to tell people is that he was the first and for a long time, the only play-by-play person for Iowa State women’s basketball.

Thinking about the @CycloneWBB community right now. I was fortunate to meet Rich a few times, and he was always very kind.

The coverage of women’s college basketball in Iowa wouldn’t be where it is today without Rich Fellingham.

“No one did more to build Hilton Magic for Cyclone women’s basketball than Rich. He was a major part of our basketball family — everyone loved Rich. ” Longtime Iowa State women’s basketball broadcaster Rich Fellingham died Wednesday.

Broadcaster Rich Fellingham, the longest-tenured voice of Iowa State women’s basketball, died Wednesday. He was 75. @TommyBirch will have extended reaction from coach Bill Fennelly at this link later tonight.
