A 24-year-old woman was killed late Tuesday night in Birmingham and now police are looking for her killer. Birmingham police identified the victim as Raven Lynette Swain. Officers rushed to Underwood Park in the 1100 block of 26th Street after getting reports of a person running with a handgun following gunshots being heard in that area.

“Upon arrival, officers were notified of a car lodged in the bushes at the entrance of the park parking lot. Upon further investigation officers discovered the victim Raven Swain in the drivers seat of the (car) unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Raven Lynette Swain. She was 24 and lived in Birmingham. Family members said she was a bright young woman who had a heart of gold.”

Birmingham has suffered 68 murders this year.

Authorities have released the name of a young woman shot to death in a park on Birmingham’s Southside.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Raven Lynette Swain. She was 24 and lived in Birmingham. Family members said she was a bright young woman who had a heart of gold.

Swain was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her vehicle when South Precinct officers responded at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday to Underwood Park in the 1100 block of 26th Street South. Birmingham Sgt. Rod Mauldin said when officers arrived at the park, they found Swain in her vehicle that was lodged in the foliage. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:48 p.m.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as family statement on the death is yet to be released.
