We are saddened by the passing of Quincey Coffey of Seymour, Indiana. Quincey was in his senior year. He was a preacher, a soul winner, Senior Class Vice President, and a student of the Word of God. He lived each day with a love for truth and an eye toward his calling.
He will be remembered for his love for the Word of God, his faithfulness to the call, his amazing testimony, and his genuine kindness toward each person he interacted with. His going to heaven as a young man is difficult for us to understand, but we trust in the sovereign plan of God. Our lives are and will be forever better for the testimony of the life of Quincey Coffey.
The IBC family mourns the tragic death of IBC Senior, Quincey Coffey from Seymour, Indiana from injuries sustained in a fatal motorcycle accident. Quincey was the unofficial Mr. Personality of the IBC student body. He was loved and respected by the student & faculty alike. In the classroom, he had an insatiable appetite for knowledge about the Word & theology. He was loved immensely by his peers and perhaps no student had so many “close” friends. For us, the loss is unbearable. For him, he’s doing what he lived for, worshiping around the throne.
Quincey attended IBC Live Recording about 5-6 years ago as a self proclaimed atheist. That night, God filled him with the Holy Ghost. Two years later he was enrolled as an IBC student and introduced “I Got Out” as he told his testimony.
My last personal interaction with him was during the week before I contracted covid. He came to my office to ask me questions about my doctoral thesis. He was very interested in more personal enrichment of the subject of worship. After I answered a few questions, he asked me how he could read my thesis. I handed it to him. I only have one bound copy. He flipped through it and I could tell he wanted to read it. I told him that my Foundations of Christian Worship textbook included the research for my thesis. “ How can I get one?” I reached over on my shelf and handed him a copy. I was so happy to give him a copy because I could sense his excitement about the opportunity to study about worship. He expressed his gratitude then clutched it under his arm and excitedly exited my office.
I’m not sure how much he read the book or studied it the past couple weeks. But one concept he has experienced whether he learned it from my textbook, or because he has joined the many angels around the throne—worship is eternal! Save me a place. I don’t think it will be long before we will all be joining you around the throne.
God we need your supernatural power to comfort the hearts of the Coffey family, the Seymour Apostolic Tabernacle family and all the many friends who loved our Quincey.
a friend to our family and worked as a contractor for our company gained his wings today. My last conversation with him he expressed his gratitude for the blessings God placed in his life this summer. He said he and many IBC men’s lives were forever changed because of the generosity of our family. He was a caring soul and a determined man who wanted to pastor and help others make heaven their home. He is a student with my daughter Alyssa Gatlin #IBC
Our hearts are heavy and pray for the family and friends as Quincys candle burned out too soon. #IBC #RIPKINDSOUL 🙏
