Payton Thompson Death – An investigation is currently being conducted by official authorities into a fatal fire that broke out in Brooklyn early on Friday morning. Brownsville firefighters were dispatched to a three-story residence on Howard Avenue soon before 5:30 a.m. on the morning of the fire. According to the police, a young girl of nine years old was found in a severe condition and transported to the hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead. A firefighter also required medical attention for some quite minor injuries.

Victim identified

A young girl who passed away early on Friday morning as a result of injuries sustained in a fire at her home is being mourned by her family in Brooklyn. The girl’s uncle, Joseph Thompson, referred to her as the “Smart, funny, brilliant, life-filled young lady that she was,” young lady that she had been. The family of 9-year-old Payton Thompson, who was described as vivacious, a bright light, and a fashionista who cherished her younger sister and loved wearing high heels and jewelry, is inconsolable at her passing.

“She was an amazing young girl. She loved people, she loved to have fun, she loved to eat … She loved her family,” Joseph Thompson said. Brownsville firefighters arrived to Howard Avenue just before daybreak to find a three-story house fully engulfed in flames when they got at the scene. According to the officers in charge of the fire department, it was impossible to reach the small child because of the large flames and the clutter that was inside the residence. Deputy Chief James Carney of the FDNY stated that they “Got delayed getting to the top floor, where one victim was found,”.

Joseph Thompson stated

It took two hours before the fire could be brought under control. The young child, aged 9, was discovered on the top floor, in one of the rooms in the back of the building. She was taken in an ambulance to the Brookdale Hospital. “They worked on her for a while, but unfortunately, she didn’t make it. It was due to the smoke,” Joseph Thompson said. Everyone else made it out safely. A GoFundMe campaign has been established in order to assist with the costs associated with the burial. Payton’s loved ones have asked that the community continue to remember him in their thoughts and prayers.

“Families, love on your babies, love on your brothers, love on your sisters. You never know when the last time is the last time,” Joseph Thompson said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this time. Payton’s uncle tells us this deadly fire destroyed the family home on the same day Payton’s sister turned 1. At a time when the family ought to have been rejoicing, a terrible event took place instead.
