P’Aris Mi-Unique Angel Moore Death – P’Aris Mi-Unique Angel Moore, 8, was killed in a shooting that is currently being looked into by the Hopewell Police Department. Police were called to a home in the 2300 block of Freeman Street on Friday, December 30, at around 2:15 p.m. for a reported shooting. Moore, who was 8 years old, was found by police with what appeared to be a chest wound from a gunshot. Moore was taken to TriCities Hospital, where she died as a result of her wounds.

Hopewell’s Chief of Police stated

According to Hopewell’s Chief of Police A.J. Starke, Moore was apparently playing in the front yard of the residence when the suspect car turned onto Freeman Street, slowed down, and fired a single shot. Authorities were informed by witnesses that around the time of the shooting, a light-colored four-door vehicle with tinted windows was seen traveling through the neighborhood. Police believe the vehicle may be related to the homicide, but a motive is unknown at this time. Moore was killed in a gunshot on Friday night that happened not far from three other shootings that happened recently.

Just a few days before her birthday, Moore was killed. She would have turned 9 years old on January 4th, a Wednesday. On January 3, members of the Hopewell neighborhood gathered for a candlelight vigil in memory of P’Aris. Many speakers demanded that the current uptick in gun violence in Hopewell halt. “If the loss of a kid cannot ignite the fire in the community to stand for justice, then I don’t know what can. ” Tavorise Marks, a Hopewell business owner, said. The necessary change in the city must be sparked by this. Someone in the audience replied that they would match Marks’ $500 prize when he indicated he would do so for information leading to the suspect’s capture.

The reward fund eventually reached $4,000 as more connections were made. Moore’s mother Brionna Taylor urged someone to have a heart and come forward. On January 7, at 1 pm, Moore’s funeral was held in the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Petersburg, which is situated on Halifax Street. The reason behind the shooting is still a mystery, as is the nature of the weapon used. Her death is still under investigation.
