One killed, Jose Javier Reyes-Escobar arrested in Charleston DUI accident

The officials are still investigating a fatal three-vehicle accident that claimed the life of one person and injured seven others on Saturday, December 18, 2021, in Charleston. The officials arrested a 21-year-old man identified as Jose Javier Reyes-Escobar of Johns Island.

Around 6:40 p.m., an SUV operated by Reyes-Escobarwas traveling at the intersection of Maybank Highway and Bohicket Road when his vehicle veered off and crashed with a sedan moving in the opposite direction. The face of the crash pushed Reyes-Escobarwas vehicle to crash head-on with another sedan going eastbound.

All the occupants of the vehicle; eight of them were rushed to the hospital for treatment but sadly, one of them succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased was not immediately released pending the notification of the family member.

Reyes-Escobar was arrested and charged with three counts of felony DUI and one count of DUI with no driver’s license. Reyes was also charged with having an open container of alcohol.

The accident remains under investigation.
