FLORENCE, ALA. (WAFF) – Friday afternoon in Florence with hundreds of people in attendance at faith church Florence, SGT Nick Risner one of the finest Sheffield Police Officer was buried.
Is was a bit happy and a sad event and even a collective yell from the crowd of “Roll Tide.”
A rally by the family joined by the community, friends and his law enforcement family hold a beautiful tribute for him.
Being beloved by Sheffield and greater north Alabama community, Nick funeral service is planned to reflect how respected and special he was.
The ceremony features several speakers in attendance, the likes of Lee Heights Baptist minister, Eric Taylor; his patrol buddy, Ray Terry and the man who was with him when he was shot, Max Dotson. Dotson will be doing the last call at the ceremony.
Being shot on the line of duty on Friday and died on Saturday, Risner, 40-years-old was the first police officer in Colbert County to died in the line of duty.
Brian Lansing Martin is accused of killing Risner along with William Mealback. Bryce Graham the District Attorney says he plans to pursue the death penalty against the accused, Martin. He says even more charges may be added.
