So sad to hear of the passing of NEIL SACHSE

It is with great sadness that SANFL advises of the passing of State and North Adelaide champion Neil Sachse.

Neil, aged 69, passed away last night after a short illness.

Along with his brother Dennis, Neil was part of the fabled Roosters team of the early 1970s that won back to back premierships and in 1972 defeated Carlton to claim the title of Champions of Australia. Neil played 94 games in the red and white.

Neil Sachse was a founding board member of the Committee for Adelaide and his passing is felt by us all. A giant on and off the field, he devoted his life to raising awareness around spinal injuries. Our condolences to his family.

The @sahmriAU community is deeply saddened by the passing of friend and colleague, Neil Sachse, who died peacefully yesterday, aged 69. Neil was a much-loved member of the SAHMRI community and, until late last year, the director of the SAHMRI-based @SpinalDiscovery.

Sad to hear of the passing of Neil Sachse, his footballing brilliance overshadowed by his accident playing for Footscray, then his charity and community work overshadowed the accident and defined his life as one of excellent achievement. Vale to a true great of SA.

Vale Neil Sachse.

A @NorthAdelaideFC legend and @westernbulldogs player who always fought the tough fight with a smile, and turned a tragic on-field accident into an opportunity to help others. One of the great men of footy.

Sad to hear of the passing of former Footscray player Neil Sachse … he tragically became a quadriplegic after breaking his neck in just his second game in the VFL in 1975 … he later became a wonderful disability advocate through his Foundation #RIP

Deeply saddened on the passing of Neil Sachse

Neil was a passionate advocate for people with spinal cord injury and raised millions of dollars for research into better diagnosis and treatments.

My sincere condolences to Neil’s family and friends

RIP Neil Sachse.
I’m a bit lost for words.
The unfairness of life. Yet from that tragic April Saturday in 1975 rose the foundation in his name.

We corresponded thru 2003. He wrote out some pages of his life, for my book idea that never eventuated.

He could paint a picture

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
