It is with great sadness that CVFRD realized the passing of former member Mike Witman. Mike was involved in a tragic accident today that also claimed his beautiful 6 year-old daughter. Mike served the citizens of Chugiak for 17 years having separated only 8 months ago needing to spend more time at home with his family. Our thoughts tonight are with Delinda and all of Mike’s loved ones!
It’s been a rough couple weeks for the fire service in Alaska. Yesterday, Mike Witman and his young daughter tragically passed away in a motor vehicle collision. Mike was a Captain with Alyeska Fire & Rescue and a former firefighter of both the Chugiak and Valdez Fire Departments.
On June 4th, Battalion Chief Ken Mayfield passed away after an accident in his home. He faithfully served the Fairbanks Fire Department for 22 years and was also a member of the Alaska Air National Guard. He will be laid to rest in California on June 30th.
And this morning, we learned that a family member of a firefighter in the Interior was severely injured in a residential fire and is currently hospitalized.
Please keep the families of all these fire service members in your prayers during these trying times.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and responders that worked with Captain Mike Witman. Because of this tragic sudden loss and his ties to the fire service community, Responders Promise has scheduled a group Eagala session to help in processing his loss.
