I’m so glad I had a chance to say and send this – along with a couple of others – to my longtime friend and sports writing co-worker Mike Shalin a few days ago. My thoughts are with Mary and his 3 sons Josh, Taylor and Mackenzie. We’re all with you. pic.twitter.com/bTA1X9vdz2

I’m saddened to hear about the passing of former Boston Herald writer Mike Shalin. He covered the Red Sox, but I knew him from years when he covered Boston College in the old Big East. Awesome guy. He will be missed by many.

Was sad to hear of Mike Shalin‘s passing earlier today. Covered so many BC games and he was always one of the good guys in the press box. I will miss Mike, but I also know that no one will miss the days prior to 2016 when we had to put fans in the Notre Dame press box. https://t.co/B02LWAzxIR

A trip to Fenway, or a visit by the Red Sox, was always an opportunity for a quality, entertaining, humorous & informative conversation with Mike Shalin. Like so many beat writers of his generation, I think he helped make many of us in the PR field better at our jobs. #RIPMike

I have covered the Rangers for 32 years. Mike Shalin was a great friend from the beginning. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram writers always had a great relationship with the Boston Herald. Two underdog papers battling it out. Mike was an awesome friend.

Longtime Boston baseball writer Mike Shalin has passed away. He had been suffering from brain cancer. He covered the Red Sox for the Herald and the Yankees for the Post. In recent years he had been an official scorer at Fenway. He was one funny guy, and truly loved baseball.

As a kid, I read a lot of Mike’s work in the Herald, so meeting him when I first covered BC was a big deal. I had not seen Mike much in recent years largely because my own coverage tailed off sharply, but his great work continued and I read plenty of it. RIP Mike Shalin https://t.co/dDe25lc6kq
