His lifelong dedication to justice can be seen through his career as well as his community work advocating for the equal representation of AAPIs and minorities in history and culture. Mike was a reliable leader and many sought his wisdom.”

I’m DEEPLY saddened to hear of the passing of Judge Michael Kwan. He was such a light & force for Chinese Americans in UT, & for the descendants of the Chinese railroad workers. I started a project he helped fund; I’ll finish it in his memory. Rest in power, judge. Rest In peace.

This is a great loss for Utah and the whole AAPI community. I had the pleasure of working with Judge Michael Kwan during my time on OCA Utah. He was a passionate soul and cared deeply about everyone.

Michael Kwan made his mark as a leader in Utah’s Asian community and on Utah courts with his innovative programs to reduce crime and improve safety for Utahns. It was an honor to know him. Sending my condolences to his friends and family. #utpol

Absolutely wrecked right now. Mike fought so hard for human rights, and Asian American Rights. I learned so much from him. I’m devastated to know that I can’t send him jokes and laugh with him anymore. Fly with the angels Mike
God this hurts

We lost one of our biggest supporters yesterday. Judge Michael Kwan invited us up 2 years in a row to Utah to present Finding Cleveland and gave us an award for using our films to preserve history. He was kind and strong and fought for everyone. He supported us in words and deed. He believed in us and our films before he even saw them. He knew before we even knew that what we were going to do was way bigger than all of us and he did everything he could to encourage us. We will be forever saddened by this loss. Not only for us but for the thousands of people in the community that benefited from his generosity, influence, and integrity. I wish you could have seen our final film. We couldn’t have made it without you. May your guidance continue to be on everyone’s lives that you touched so that we can continue your good work.

Rest in peace, Judge Michael Kwan.
The Gold Mountain family will be forever grateful to you for making it possible for us to share our story of the Chinese railroad workers at the Spike 150 celebrations last year. You’ve done so much good in your lifetime, and your devotion to family, community, and country will be missed.

It is with deep sorrow that Salt Lake Acting Company shares news of the passing of Judge Michael Kwan. Judge Kwan, pictured here on the far right, appeared last year on a panel in conjunction with our mounting of David Henry Hwang’s THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD, as part of Utah’s Spike 150 celebrations. He was a force of true patriotism and someone whom we are so privileged to have known. We, as a company, send our thoughts to Judge Kwan’s family and friends during this difficult time.

I am absolutely devastated to hear of Judge Michael Kwan’s passing. He’s been such an amazing leader in our state. I feel absolutely humbled and honored to have worked with him on issues impacting the AAPI community for past three years. I am speechless. Sending my deepest condolences to the Kwan family
