Marvin Sackner, a great friend to so many in the arts all over the world, passed away on Tuesday. Marvin was all things: a brilliant scientist; the funniest person in the room; a breathtakingly accomplished collector; a lesson in kindness and humility; that guy who tested every boundary; the person whose advice you could always trust; a patent-holder; a genre-creator; the person who will always answer the phone; and a friend who would and did save your life.

Marvin created the world you wanted to live in: open to all, with no regard for station or creed, all questions answered without judgment, an invitation to take part ever at the ready. You and Ruth were great Americans and great human beings. Thank you for always leading by example.

The world has lost a lovely human and a remarkable collector…RIP.

He was 88.

RIP Marvin Sackner: with Ruth Sackner, he assembled one of the greatest collections of concrete and visual poetry, probably the greatest. I am proud to have work in the collection, which in 2019 he donated to the University of Iowa.

Rest In Peace Marvin Sackner, massive benefactor and collector of concrete poetry. I’ll always be honoured that he owned much of my work in manuscript and publication:

So sad to hear of the passing of great Marvin Sackner this weekend 💭He & his wife Ruth made such a colossal contribution to our understanding of concrete & visual poetry/lit expression. Still holding out for my indef postponed trip (2021?) to their incredible archive @UISpecColl

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
