The great, Chicago-based but internationally known saxophonist Mark colby has passed away. He was loved by all who knew him or heard him for his exceptional talent, engaging personality and no-holds-barred sense of humor! We were fortunate to have had him play with us a couple of times–always special when he could join us! R.I.P. Mark, we’re all better players and people for having known you.

It is with great sadness to inform you that Mark Colby has passed away. He was my friend, teacher, bandmate, and founding member of the Mulligan Mosaics Big Band. He has left a legacy of musicianship, artistry, and recordings that I will cherish. Thank you for everything, my friend.

R.I.P. Mark! The Chicago/world jazz community has lost another legend. Saxophone player, Mark Colby. Mark toured and recorded with the trumpet phenom, Maynard Ferguson. Mark was also an educator, teaching here at DePaul University and Elmhurst college.

Everybody at DANSR and Vandoren is saddened by the passing of our friend and inspiration Mark Colby. He was a master with the saxophone as he was a teacher and mentor to so many. Rest in Peace dear friend, the world will not be the same without you.

This evening, I learned of Mark Colby’s passing. Mark was a phenomenal musician who was greatly respected by his peers, students, and many fans. I am fortunate to have seen his talent firsthand at a New Standard Jazz Orchestra concert back in 2015. Rest in peace.

The country lost a jazz legend today. Saxophonist Mark Colby – shown here performing with the DGS Jazz Ensemble at the Jazz Showcase in 2017 – passed away this morning. Thank you Mark for your friendship over the years. You will be missed.
