Professor Mario Torelli Death – Obituary | Dead – Passed Away

Mario Torelli Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Mario Torelli.

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for the great contribution made to Culture, that the Directorate General of Museums, on behalf of the entire museum and archaeological sector, greets a great man and a great Master, Mario Torelli, who passed away today.

For a long time and in the last period he had been working as curator on the project of a great exhibition on Pompeii and Rome, which would soon have opened in the offices of Pompeii and the Colosseum, whose institutions are now directed by two of his pupils and where several of his alumni work there.

An archaeologist with important discoveries (such as Gravisca, port of Tarquinia) and fundamental research, great master of entire generations of students who fascinated and motivated for his way of teaching by intertwining art, crafts, political, social and economic history, and many pupils accompanied along the path of prestigious careers.

Academic of Lincei, Balzan Prize, scholar of vast knowledge and great critical ability that allowed him to relate archaeological data with literary and epigraphic sources according to a modern and original approach, always extremely rigorous. As a professor of archaeology and History of Greek and Roman Art, he taught at several Italian and foreign universities – last, this year at the Southern High School in Naples – facing the main areas of ancient culture, from the Greek to the Etruscan world and to the Etruscan world Roman, tracing a unique path in archaeological research, thus becoming an essential reference point for generations of scholars of ancient cultures.

#Paestum mourns the death of Mario Torelli, the archaeologist who has studied the history of this city in Roman age for years.
The news has come while working on the publication of his latest book dedicated to the Sanctuary of Santa Venera and while the redevelopment work of the Roman hall of the museum is underway, whose original project was curated by him.
An unbearable loss to the history of archaeology: there was no young student who didn’t study from his texts and doesn’t know his ′′ Roman Paestum “.
We will remember him with affection and gratitude, Paestum will forever remain the intangible sign of his work

It is with deep sadness that even the Museums of Massa Marittima join in the pain of the passing of the great scholar Prof. Mario Torelli. We want to remember him a year ago, at the conference in memory of his friend and colleague Prof. Camporeal when he told us about the passion that has characterized his whole life, archaeology. Thank you for everything professor.
