Fort Knox Shooting – Investigation is active after a man was shot and killed on the Fort Knox Post Sunday night.
Fort Knox Police initially responded to a call of a suspicious person near the Visitor Center. When officers arrived, the 41-year-old, non-military affiliated man fled by vehicle onto the Fort Knox military reservation.
Three officers pursued the man in their patrol cars. The pursuit ended just east of the main cantonment area (the city portion of Fort Knox). Officers tried to deescalate the situation when the man attempted to ram and run over the officers.
The man was then shot by Fort Knox Police and pronounced deceased early Sunday morning.
The officers involved are on paid leave, pending an administrative investigation.
At this time, there is no indication that this was an extremist or terrorist-related incident.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.
