Luther Lewis Williams identified as Jacksonville triple homicide victim

Luther Lewis Williams Death – The family of Luther Lewis Williams IV, the third victim of a triple homicide that occurred in Jacksonville, has recognized him as the victim. William was 44 years old at the time. A family member told Journalist that it is possible that Williams walked in on the crime and was killed because he was a witness. According to what she stated, he was on his way to the store when he stopped by to check on the other two victims.

Brandon Carter stated

The Williams family has expressed that at this time they do not wish to speak on camera, but they have provided the press with a photo of Williams. They say that he has a daughter that he leaves behind. We have conversations with locals who reside in the neighborhood where the incident took place. One man tells the press, he’s worried about the incident happening so close to home. “Great job JSO for doing their job and sorry for the ones who lost somebody because it touches everybody,” said Brandon Carter, neighbor.

On Monday, Ja-Darrius Jones, age 18, a suspect in the triple murder, was taken into custody. On Tuesday, family members learned that the other two victims were Jones’ grandparents, Gregory Merritt, 63, and Uneeda Hardy, 58. Merritt and Hardy were both in their 60s. The bodies of Hardy and Merritt, who were identified by their families as the victims, were recovered inside the house, while the body of William was discovered outside. The incident with the shooting occurred in the 11000 block of Bridges Road, which is located on the Northwest side of the city close to Dunn Avenue.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to the neighborhood after receiving a report of gunshots coming from the residence. According to a news release issued by the JSO, investigators recognized Jones as a person who might have been involved in the crime and discovered that he was at a neighboring property. Officers went to that residence and saw Jones attempting to get away out of a window, the news release states. Jones was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit by law enforcement.
