33-year-old David Perry arraigned on murder charges in I-5 road rage incident
Lufino Reyes Mejorado Death : 33-year-old David Perry suspected of fatally shooting 60-year-old Lufino Reyes Mejorado during a road rage incident on Monday has been arraigned on charges of felony murder and including a special circumstance of discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle with intent to harm Thursday, according to a court document.
Perry was arraigned at a Sacramento in criminal court in an orange jail suit and has been assigned a public defender who then asked that the arraignment continues to the 4th of Jan, the document shows.
The 33-years-old was arrested by the California Highway Patrol about 24 hours after the freeway shooting which occurred on the Interstate 5 downtown Sacrament Monday at about 2 p.m. The victim Mejorado Mejorado was a retired correctional officer at California State Prison Solano, according to state officials, but beyond that, his friends say he was a man of faith, a loving father, a veteran, and star baseball player. He earned a Ph.D. and was certified as a Mental Health First Aid responder.
Officials responded on receiving multiple alerts of a possible road rage shooting on Interstate 80 and Watt Avenue, which escalated to gunfire, and located the victim later identified as Lufino Reyes Mejorado suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. Mejorado was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after.
