Edward Poage McClanahan was born in Brooksville, Kentucky, a home rule-class city in Bracken County, Kentucky, in the United States on October 5th in 1932, to Edward Leroy and Jessie McClanahan. McClanahan attended Washington and Lee University, a private liberal arts university in Lexington, Virginia that was established in the year 1749 as the Augusta Academy for just one year. He continued at Miami University where he obtained his B.A. in English in 1955.
Miami University is a public research university in Oxford, Ohio. The university was founded in 1809, making it the second-oldest university in Ohio and the 10th oldest public university in the United States. He bagged an M.A. in English from the University of Kentucky in the year 1958. He was a creative writer who started in the mid-1950s, he was known for his writings in magazines like Esquire, Playboy, and Rolling Stone.
