Vale Lachlan Garland – very sad news Lachlan Garland has passed away after a long illness. Lachlan was a tireless advocate for the environment in the Blue Mountains and beyond. He was a former President of the Blue Mountains Conservation Society, an active volunteer member of Council’s Bushcare groups in Wentworth Falls and part of the Bushcare network. He received Bushcare’s Hard Yakka award for all his work in Bushcare over many years. He was the chair of the Jamieson Creek Catchment Working Group, which he also advocated to establish to protect our waterways and bushland along the Charles Darwin Walk at Wentworth Falls. Indeed, Lachlan cared so much about the environment and the role that Council can play in protecting it, that he was also a regular member, together with Paul Vale, of the public gallery at Council meetings. Lachlan’s contributions to protecting our environment will be enduring. It was great to get know and work with Lachlan on a myriad small and large projects. I will miss him greatly. I know many people in our community who worked with him will do too. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, his friends and colleagues. Lachlan you will be missed but not forgotten. Our challenge is to carry on your passions and your work.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
