Friends and other affected persons expressed their condolences on social media

“Devastated to hear about the passing of Milton Leathers. What a loss for Athens and beyond. A storyteller, historian, and very kind soul. He’ll be missed.”

“There are no words for such a loss. All I can think is – he would have known exactly what to say. Please pray for family, friends, loved ones and the city of Athens as we process the loss of our beloved Milton Leathers. A stalwart figure ever-present in my childhood memories, especially from family gatherings of Thanksgivings past. I will never forget your exuberant love of history and knowledge and the way you could turn a phrase. I will never forget you guiding us reluctant youths on a family history tour of Athens. Or the comfort I get from reading your perfect words for grandaddy’s passing. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us, there will never be another like you, Milton.”

“My heart is broken, a friend and a well-respected hero of mine is no longer with us. Milton Leathers. He and Howard Scott claimed to be related to everyone in Athens! Milton and his wife Cammy are the sweetest people on the planet. I LOVE his family. Milton Leathers, R.I.P.”

This is not Milton Leathers obituary. His obituary will be released by his family.
