Two teens killed, three others injured in Winneshiek County car accident

An 18-year-old Karter Einck of Decorah and Dalton Hemesath, 18, of Ridgeway have lost their lives, three others teenagers injured following a fatal single-vehicle accident in Winneshiek County around 10:13 p.m. on Friday night, December 17, 2021.

According to the initial investigation report released by the Authorities, an SUV occupied by five teenagers was moving northbound on West County Road when the driver, identified as Dalton Hemesath, 18 of Ridgeway lost control, slid sideways into the west ditch and overturned multiple times.

Officials reported to the scene and confirmed Einck and Hemesath dead. The other three identified as Emmitt Stemper, 17, 17-year-old Brendan Hunter and 18-year-old David Kreitzer, all from Decorah, sustained injuries form the crash and were transported to different hospitals for treatment.

Stemper was rushed to Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin while the other two victims were taken to hospital in Cresco. It was revealed that non of the victims was wearing a seat belt during the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
