Very sad to hear of the passing of the great variety entertainer Johnny Beattie. He was such a pro. He had an amazing career and never stopped working. Everyone who met him said he was a gentleman and I never heard anyone say a bad word about him. My thoughts are with his children.

Actor and comedian Johnny Beattie has died at the age of 93. The veteran of stage and screen from Govan starred in Taggart, River City and Rab C Nesbitt, as well as featuring in the film The Big Man, alongside Billy Connolly and Liam Neeson.

The Pavilion Theatre described him as “a great friend” and “one of the few last remaining performers from magical days of variety theatre”
