Death: Off-Road Racing John Marking of Fox Racing passed away

John Marking death – passed away: John Marking, of El Cajon, California, Off-Road legend, passed away on Sunday morning, December 12, 2021, in his home near San Diego, California. Marking was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame this year. According to Desert Speed Lab on Facebook, he wrote that Marking’s told him he was suffering from stage 4 esophageal cancer after he messaged him earlier this year to come down here to Australia and to show him what I’ve been trying to build, prior to the Finke desert race.

He is a native of Bonita, California, he went to Bonita Vista Senior High. He started his career in 1988 at Jimco Racing Products. He then enrolled in the engineering program at San Diego State University. He began rebuilding and modifying shock absorbers which landed him at Fox Racing Shox. He became the go-to guy for suspension over 28 years. He helped redesign shock absorbers for larger vehicles, opening the door for Ford, Jeep, and a host of others to offer high-performance off-road vehicles to new enthusiasts. He has patents in the US and Europe. He is married to his beloved wife Gretchen and they have an adorable son Bryce.

On his Facebook account, a post was shared that read “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John Vincent Marking, loving husband, father, and friend. He went peacefully early this morning in the comfort of his home. A Celebration of Life is being planned for early 2022. Information will be posted in the near future. All will be welcome.”

John Marking’s obituary will be organized by the family.
