We are heartbroken to share the news that our Bilston – Bert Williams team member, John Mallinson, has sadly passed away. John was a much-loved lifeguard and gym assistant, and as a swim teacher he also taught hundreds of children to swim.
John’s final act of kindness was to donate his organs, which his family have been informed will help five people in need of transplants, as well as sending his heart to Birmingham Children’s Hospital to treat babies with congenital heart disease.
The thoughts of the WV Active team are with John’s family. We are so proud to have known John and been lucky enough to call him a colleague and a friend. His quirky, larger than life personality will be missed by all.
It is with great sadness that we have heard about the sad and sudden death of one of the lifeguards who works at Bert Williams Pool. John Mallinson, who was only in his 30s, sadly passed away this weekend and this has come as a great shock to his friends, family and work colleagues. John was a true friend to the club and always very supportive and helpful around poolside- we will miss him immensely. We plan to take a collection for him at the upcoming training sessions and any donations would be warmly welcomed. Monies received will go to Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Many thanks. Luke
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
