Joe Genier Irondequoit Obituary

Joe Genier Irondequoit Obituary – Death, Cause Of Death, Funeral: ” The Town of Irondequoit lost a legend. Judge Joe Genier was one of our Judges during my time at the Irondequoit Police Department. He was one of those guys who would stare at you with a mad look on his face just long enough to make you uncomfortable. Then he would smile from ear to ear while you would breathe a sigh of relief.

He took no bull on the bench. I can’t tell you how many times he would stop a young DA or defense attorney and say, “What are you trying to ask? Just ask him!” He certainly wasted no time breaking my stones (off the bench, of course).
I learned a lot from Judge Genier. A public servant, an entrepreneur, a good man. You will be missed, Judge.”

Tributes To Joe Genier

Below are some of the statements shared across social media users’ timelines on the death of Genier.

“I was devastated to learn of the passing of Judge Joe Genier. As a young prosecutor nearly thirty years ago, it was an honor and a privilege to be assigned to his court. Judge Genier was always a true professional of the highest caliber from his time as a law enforcement officer to an Irondequoit Town Judge. He was a mentor to me and to all of the ADAs who have presented before him. He started as a role model and became a friend. I offer my condolences to Judge Genier’s family during this difficult time. I will miss you, my friend.”

“Chief Laird and members of the Irondequoit Police Department share in the sadness and grief that our community is feeling regarding the passing of Town Justice Joseph Genier. Many of us not only knew Judge Genier from working with him but also knew him on a personal level and as a friend. “While Judge Genier had the appearance of being rough and gruff, his true personality was that of a kind and caring person. He was genuine in his love for service to the Town of Irondequoit and its citizens. He will be truly missed,” said Chief Laird. On behalf of the Irondequoit Police Department, our hearts go out to Joe’s family, friends, and colleagues; please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

“I join the entire Irondequoit community in mourning the passing of Town Justice Joseph T. Genier. Joe was a force of nature and it is simply impossible to imagine an Irondequoit without him. He leaves behind a legacy of service that few can match.
Judge Genier served in Irondequoit Town Court for nearly 28 years and was completing his seventh term in office, running unopposed this Fall for an eighth term. Prior to his election as Town Justice, he served our community as a Sergeant in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for two decades and was also a military veteran, serving three years as a Sergeant in the Military Police.
If there was a civic cause in Irondequoit, Joe was likely an active participant. He was a dedicated member of the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, organizing an annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors. Among other efforts, he volunteered his time in causes such as the Irondequoit Rotary, Irondequoit Youth Bureau, and was a driving force in the planning, advocacy and development of the new Irondequoit Library. Joe was committed to his Town, and willing to invest his time and energy on its behalf.
Personally, Joe was a longtime friend, to both myself and my entire family. I’ve known him ever since I could dribble a basketball, and some of my youngest memories are of he and my Father running IAA basketball together. I am sure there are so many of us who had a similar friendship and connection with Joe, whom, like me, are filled with sadness today.
On behalf of the Town of Irondequoit, I offer my condolences to Joe’s family.
Rest in Peace, Joe. And, Thank You. Irondequoit is a better place because of you.”
