The second person to die, Jeremy Malave, was also not hit directly by another motor vehicle, and had a massive head injury (unclear if he was wearing a helmet).

Malave reportedly lost control, and this seems like a recurring feature, even for experienced riders.


REVEL SCOOTER RIDER KILLED IN QUEENS | NYPD: On Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at approximately 0315 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a Revel scooter on Woodhaven Boulevard near 67 Drive, within the confines of the 112 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 32-year-old male lying on the roadway with severe head trauma. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to North Shore Forest Hills hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the male was operating a Revel scooter while traveling northbound on Woodhaven Boulevard, approaching 67 Drive, when the operator failed to properly navigate the roadway and struck the center light pole within the center median at the location, before coming to a rest thereat. The investigation remains ongoing.
