Rest In Peace dear Jay Van Vechten, founder of the annual Boating and Beach Bash. Our hearts are broken and we will never forget your kindness and support to the Royal DJs. We loved playing music at the Bash every year and will miss you so much.

We lost a dear friend, Jay Van Vechten yesterday. It’s still hard to believe that Jay is gone. We met him in 2017 when he invited Kechi Ok to perform at the Boating and Beach Bash for People with Disabilities, a yearly event he started in Boca Raton, FL. Since then Kechi has been a regular at the event, more because Jay, and his lovely wife Lowell, became dear friends of ours. Jay was that rare human being, a genuinely good person and filled with such deep love and compassion for others. My life is richer for having known you, Jay. I will miss you, dear friend.
Lowell, you know he was a rare gem and with you guys I always saw a love that brightened up the room. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Yesterday my dear friend Jay Van Vechten went to Heaven. Many years ago Jay and his lovely wife Lowell warmly welcomed me into their home–and into their hearts! How lucky am I! Jay loved that I nicknamed him “Wing Man” as I always insisted upon sitting next to him at the many charity functions we attended! My Wing Man always so generously listened to me, counseled me, encouraged me–and always made me feel so extra special! Jay had a gift for making everyone blessed to know him feel super special! My dear Wing Man has flown to Heaven. However–Jay’s soul and spirit remains in my heart–always! May Lowell, son Nick, and grandson Alex always know that their incredible Jay truly enriched the lives of so very many! Especially mine! Thank you My Wonderful Wing Man! I smile up upon you always!

I lost a dear friend today.
Jay Van Vechten was a genuinely good man. I only knew him for a few years and we built a great friendship over our shared drive to do something good for the disabled community of Boca Raton.
I am so, so sorry for the loss of such a kind soul. To his sweet wife Lowell van Vechten, I pray only for God’s peace to comfort you in this hard time. Love you ❤️ and may Jay’s soul rest in perfect peace with the Lord.
Amen.

I just received the very sad news that our dear friend Jay Van Vechten passed away this morning. Jay was a giving man with a huge heart. I cannot even put into words to express my feelings.

When I first moved here, Jay was one of the first people who mentored me and helped me establish myself here in the community. My thoughts and prayers are with Lowell van Vechten and Nicholas Van Vechten. Goodbye, my friend. We will all miss you greatly, especially those big bear hugs.

Longtime Boca Raton Tribune contributor and nonprofit champion, Jay Van Vechten passed away today, July 11, 2020.

Jay was an advocate and friend for the disabled in not only Boca Raton, but in South Florida.

In 2009, while serving on the Boca Raton Disability Advisory Board, Jay presented his idea to create an event to help the disabled community and since March 2009 he was in charge of the Boca Boating & Beach Bash in Boca Raton.

What started with 350 people in March of 2009, became a huge event that in its 10th year welcomed over 6,000 guests.

Jay was, and forever will be embedded in the fabric of our community.

As a writer, he would write columns for The Boca Raton Tribune highlighting different people and spotlighting the ways they served our community.

Jay will forever be a shining light in our City. We have lost a great friend of not only the newspaper but the entire community.

Our heart mourns the loss of our beloved friend, Jay Van Vechten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and family at this time.
