Writer Jan Reid Death – Obituary | Dead – Passed Away

Jan Reid Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Jan Reid.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

RIP Jan Reid, longtime @TexasMonthly writer and author of The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock, the first book about Austin music and one of the inspirations for Austin City Limits.

Jan Reid, who put Austin Music on the map with 1974’s The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock, has passed. His @TexasMonthly archive- featuring profiles of Willie Nelson, Coach Royal, Doug Sahm & more is here:

Lost our old friend Jan Reid over the weekend. He was good-humored, generous, kind, tough, and unbelievably stoic in the face of serious hardship. He was also a hell of a writer. All who knew him will miss him dearly. Kip Stratton has written a beautiful remembrance of him here.

RIP to Jan Reid, Texas literary giant. If you get a chance to read ANY of his books, especially “The Improbable Rise and Fall of Redneck Rock” about the history of the outlaw country music or “The Bullet Meant for Me,” do so.

The indiscriminate cruelty of 2020 continues. Last night we lost Jan Reid, one of the greatest writers ever to be published in @texasmonthly + one of my favorite writers ever to edit. Lovely, gentle, funny, and tough as hell. Rest in peace, my man

Jan Reid was in his twenties and working as sports editor of the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung when his byline first appeared in Texas Monthly in 1973, the year the magazine began publication. His name remained on its masthead until his death.

A wonderful friend & Texas writer, Jan Reid, just died of a heart attack at the age of 75. A lovely, singular voice, both in letters & in life. RIP.

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
