Jackson police are looking into a series of fatal shootings that occurred over Mother’s Day weekend.
According to Deputy Chief Deric Hearn, the first shooting occurred on Woody Drive on Friday, May 6. Venson Mix, 18 years old, was shot in the back. The victim was taken by car to Merit Health Hospital, where he died.
Another shooting occurred on West Highland Drive on Friday night. Jeremy Hacket, 15, was shot in the lower back and died at the scene, according to Hearn.
On Saturday, May 7, Hearn reported a murder-suicide at a Motel 6 on I-55 around 2:00 a.m. According to Hearn, Jered Shailoh Branaham shot himself and his wife. They were both from out of state.
Hearn also stated on Saturday that Deandrez Davis, 27, was shot while driving on Clinton Boulevard. The victim drove into Windsor Park Apartments after driving through an iron fence.
Earnest Walter died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) on Sunday, May 8, around 2:00 p.m., according to Hearn. A second person was taken to UMMC as a result of the incident. Isaiah Myles, 14, was arrested in connection with the shooting, according to police. He is accused of murder and aggravated assault.
Ray Lee Sr. was shot and killed on Ginger Drive shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Sunday.
