Newspaper Editor Harry Evans Death – Obituary | Dead – Passed Away

Harry Evans Death – Dead: A great loss was made known to InsideEko. As friends and families of the deceased are mourning the passing of their loved and cherished Harry Evans.

Having heard about this great loss, the family of this individual is passing through pains, mourning the unexpected passing of their beloved.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased.

A world without Harry Evans will be a much more boring place. Charismatic to the end, here he is at his 90th birthday party two years ago putting me and ⁦@arusbridger⁩ straight on a couple matters. Condolences to Tina and all the family

Harry Evans was a wise counsel to me when I edited for Murdoch, especially in New York. He had inspired me to start my daily newspaper career at the Northern Echo too. Thoughts with Tina and the children. Harry was a great and wonderful global northerner.

I am so grateful Harry Evans became my mentor and friend, and all of us at Reuters are blessed to have worked with him and learned from him these past 10 years. His example will continue to guide us.

Very, very sad to hear of Harry Evans’s passing. A giant of journalism and one of the loveliest, smartest men in the business. I have forced dozens of friends to read “My Paper Chase,” his brilliant memoir

Harry Evans was the greatest newspaper editor of all time. He lost himself in injustices – Bloody Sunday, thalidomide, cervical screening. Proof that your humanity can be what makes you a great journalist

So sad to wake up to the death of #HarryEvans – he was a God of journalism whose ⁦⁦@thesundaytimes⁩ uncovered the thalidomide scandal & unmasked Kim Philby as a Soviet spy & made journalism exciting and crusading to people like me growing up then

It was a privilege to meet Harry Evans when I worked at Reuters. A man who cared about the 4th estate and its capacity to hold those with power to account. He knew the importance of telling stories to shine a light on inequality & injustice. He made journalism hopeful & thrilling

Even in his 90s Harry Evans was a great supporter of investigative journalism. At the Bureau of Investigative Journalism we were very grateful for his continuing support

Along with Ben Bradlee, Harry Evans was one of the twin giants that journalists of my generation revered from afar. I remember the dog-eared copy of this book, consulted like the bible in the office of my student paper

RIP Sir Harry Evans, 92.
One of the all-time great newspaper editors. His stunning Thalidomide investigation when he ran the Sunday Times epitomised his crusading, campaigning, fearless style.
A wonderful journalist & a witty, charming, fiercely intelligent man. Very sad news.

Legendary newspaper editor Sir Harold Matthew Evans has sadly died. He was editor of The Sunday Times from 1967 to 1981, @thesundaytimes photo by Sally Soames of Harry Evans. #HarryEvans #journalism #newspapers

Harry Evans’s mentor and predecessor as editor of The Sunday Times, Denis Hamilton, summed him up well when he wrote: “Harold could be wild and impulsive, but he had the sort of crusading energy a Sunday editor requires”

Remarkable detail from ⁦@jimwaterson⁩’s story on the death of Harry Evans – different times commercially for the media, but his obits contain many lessons about its role that should endure.

Very sad to hear about the death of Sir Harry Evans, the greatest ever newspaper editor, who never lost his interest in The Northern Echo.

Harry Evans is rightly being remembered as a great journalist and one of the best editors in journalism’s history. He was more than that a wonderful man, deeply principled, passionate about right and wrong, truth and reason, and a wonderful support to friends facing difficulties

In 1981 Harry Evans came to Manchester to see what was happening in Moss Side and stood apart from the media and the Thatcher Government to tell the truth. He was an ally to my dad and so many others in the race relations struggle. An inspiration, always.

Harry Evans said the job of an editor was to provide “a home for a large number of salaried eccentrics.”

We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
