GSU student Zaria Griffith dies in Winn Parish car crash on Thanksgiving Day

Zaria L. Griffith Death – Cause of Death : 23-year-old Grambling State University student, Zaria L. Griffith, of Chicago, Illinois has lost her life in a single-car accident that happened on Thanksgiving Day. The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 25, 2021, on U.S Highway 167 north of Dodson in Winn Parish, Louisiana.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Griffith was driving a 2004 Mazda 3 southbound on U.S. Highway 167 when for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree.  Griffith who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her two passengers who were also wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash sustained were hospitalized with minor injuries.

“Grambling State University is saddened to hear of the passing of Zaria L. Griffith. She was involved in a fatal crash yesterday evening on U.S. Highway 167. Griffith was a native of Chicago, IL, a Biology major, Senior Associate Justice in the SGA, and a student ambassador. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones. We want to encourage all GramFam to be cautious and vigilant while traveling on the highways.”

We are deeply saddened and overwhelmed at this time. We ask that you limit the calls as we are traveling and trying to gathering more details of this horrifying event. We ask that you keep all of us in your prayers as we need them more than ever. Your calls and texts are seen, heard and felt. We do plan to get back to each and everyone. Thank you for your love, prayers and concern”. 

Zaria L. Griffith obituary will be released by her family.
