GoFundMe – Cody Backwell MD dies in Calvert Beach Road car accident

Cody Blackwell Death – Cause of Death : 16-year-old Cody Blackwell, a sophomore at Northern High School has passed away following injuries suffered from a deadly two-car accident. The car crash happened on Monday, December 13, 2021, around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of  Route 4 and Calvert Beach Road in Souther Maryland.

According to a GoFundMe account created by Theresa McGuire to support his family with his funeral expenses, after school, Cody got a ride from a neighbor to join his girlfriend in prince Frederick where she was getting her nails done. After, her mom drove the both of them back to their house to hang out. On the way home from his girlfriend’s house Cody rode in the rear passenger side. Everyone was wearing seatbelts. They were turning at Route 4 and Calvert Beach Rd on a green arrow when a pickup truck driving at a high rate of speed ran the red light and t-boned the vehicle.

Cody took the brunt of the impact. The Prince Frederick Rescue Squad arrived at the scene of the crash shortly after and extricated Cody from the car. Life-saving measures were performed on him, sadly, he died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.

Cody who would have turned 17 on Monday, December 20, 2021, dreamed of owning his own auto garage one day. He loved fishing with his dad when they got the chance. He touched the lives of all those around him wherever he went and leaves behind a host of grieving family and friends, more specifically and importantly a truly heartbroken mom, dad, and brothers, says the GoFundMe.

The goal of the GoFundMe is to raise $6,000.  As of Tuesday afternoon, $4,540 of the $6,000 goal has been raised.
